Replify Accelerator 4.0 (codenamed Lausanne) ships at the end of this week so it seems appropriate to let you all know what you're going to be getting.

I was recently asked to contribute some sound bites about WAN optimization for a report in a technology journal. One of the questions set to prompt my comments was "Should I just buy more bandwidth, or will WAN optimization solve the problem more effectively?"

Haven't had time to blog for a couple of weeks. Firstly working on release 4.0 of Replify Accelerator (I'll cover the release next week) and secondly I've been on vacation for two weeks. Thirty years ago as a student I came on a back-packing, inter-railing, trip to Switzerland.

What's irritating me? the term, concept, idea, whatever, of "private cloud". There is no such %$*£ing thing as a "private cloud"!

I've commented on this trend before, but the change is almost complete - true unlimited mobile data plans are pretty much dead. Verizon are about to phase theirs out.

Office 365 launched this week. Here at Replify we've been using its precursor BPOS for over a year, along with numerous other cloud-based services, so it seemed a good moment to reflect on our experiences of cloud adoption.

UltraISO is an ISO CD/DVD image file creating/editing/converting tool and a bootable CD/DVD maker , it can directly edit the CD/DVD image file and extract files and folders from it, as well as directly make ISO files from your CD/DVD-ROM or hard disk. At the same time, you can maintain the ISO bootable information, thus creating your own bootable CD/DVDs. You now have the power to make and edit your own ISO files, and then burn them to CD/DVD for your own needs.

I've been catching up on news digests over the last few days and a couple of things caught my eye.
Firstly, Vint Cerf, usually referred to as "the father of the internet" is suggesting that the need for streaming (as in content) will be obviated by massive increases in network bandwidth.

In my last blog I referred to Riverbed's complaint that BlueCoat were abusing data to make their products look better than Riverbeds. Today I find that a potential customer has been told by Riverbed that we only accelerate a fraction of the applications they do, because we are a Virtual Appliance.

I reached a new decade age-wise recently, and I think that's a good excuse to sound off about something.
iPads. So full disclosure here - I don't like Apple. Or maybe I don't like the way other people do like Apple.

Finally got round to uploading the "Steamboat Willy" CLAN animation. If you haven't yet got your head around why the software approach to WAN optimization is so attractive, or how CLAN provides full acceleration without remote hardware, check it out.

I'm watching the traditional hardware-based WAN Optimization companies shuffling their feet and subtly repositioning themselves as software-based. It's fun to watch.

It's the morning of the third and final day of Internet World and so I have sore feet, a sore back, a sore throat and a degree of mental numbness. But that aside, it's been a great exhibition - we've had a chance to pitch the CLAN story both to individual booth visitors and at our session in the Connectivity theatre, and it has gone over very well

It's been a hectic fortnight (that's two weeks in American time) as we got organized for Internet World 2011 in London next week. We've put together a very cool CLAN demo to share with visitors to our stand, and we have a speaking slot at 4.30 on Wednesday in the Connectivity and Hosting stream.

So last Friday afternoon, the team here were able to pop open a couple of bottles of champagne as we put Replify Accelerator 3.6 to bed. We've taken a few days out for Easter, eaten a sickening number of chocolate eggs, and come back to formally release it.

Amazon are having a torrid time at the moment with their very public EC2outage. It's a reminder that when you put your eggs into the cloud basket it may rain on your picnic... er, sorry, lost my way in that metaphor.
