Trac Research http://www.trac-research.com/ are about to publish their report on WAN Optimization Controllers. In the mean time Trac's Jeremy Rozen has published a short summary of the five key trends. Now I'm a Product Manager, so my boss should sack me if I have to tell him "Hey, I didn't see that one coming" for many of these. Is my job safe?

It has become a tradition of sorts for me to write a blog at the end of my summer vacation and noodle on random technical things related to travel. So that's what I'll do as I take my final look at the Austrian lake, mountains, ornamental fountain and surly gardener.

I came across a white paper by Ashton, Metzler & Associates entitled "Virtualization Changes Everything". Given that it expounds on the virtues of the virtualized approach to WAN optimization and sets out all the reasons why it's a more flexible, effective and affordable solution than tin-box based acceleration, I could hardly disagree with it.

Several years ago we made the choice to implement the core of our technology using a relatively new programming language called Erlang. There were some risks in the choice, not least the lack of skills in the marketplace, but we've seen the choice validated again and again.

My brain is trained to spot the word "de-duplication" in an email, brochure or web page, the same way some kids can find Wally in a crowd in 5 seconds flat. About half the time though, my initial interest is wasted because it turns out to be a reference to storage de-duplication.

We've been very excited over the last few days as a glorious event drew near. The Olympic Torch passed our office and a flotilla of a thousand ships filled the Thames. A kindly old woman in a hat waved at a lot of people (in HD) and Paul McCartney croaked horribly like one of the frogs from his frog chorus.

I made a few predictions for 2012. The first has already come true: The ISPs will find billions of IPv4 addresses down the back of the sofa, in the rear pocket of their pants, and in their “guy” drawer, and decide that we don’t need IPv6 for anther decade.

It's a while since I've talked about Replify's Syncstor product - the client software that allows Outlook to connect directly with repositories such as SharePoint to provide instant on and off-line access to content. I thought I should remedy that, and the best way to do it was to ask Alan McMillen, our Director of Syncstor, to talk about the latest release.

Expand are gone. I would say acquired by Riverbed, but what Riverbed seem to have acquired is the ability to tell the Expand customers they have a year to migrate to Riverbed.

Two things to share with you: One the official launch of Whisple - a consortium offering cloud services. Replify are a founding member and we look forward to partnering with global vendors like EMC, and local specialists like Novosco and Anaeko, to enable local companies to embrace the cloud as both a marketplace and an enabler for their own businesses.
