08.24.2005 - 2entwine: Using Gush with Google Talk

View Gush related news. Now you can use your favorite IM client to talk to other Gmail users. Since your username is your Gmail address and the server you have to connect to is talk.google.com you need to make a small change to your login settings. Click the setup button on the login screen and then unselect the checkbox that says "Auto detect Server/Port". Then enter "talk.google.com" for the server and "5222" for the port and hit Ok and you should be all set to login. Remember your Jabber ID is your Gmail address, for example "thedude@gmail.com".

Google Talk's jabber offerings seem to be limited for the time being. You can add other Gmail users only, no contacts on different servers. There also doesn't seem to be any group chat, gateway support, or offline messaging, but then again it is beta. Enjoy.
